Ringlink 3.3 is available for download. News in this version include:

Counter-checking automatic (spam) submissions of rings and sites
----------------------------------------------------------------
The program now includes a cookie based feature to make it more difficult for the spammers to let their robots submit rings and sites automatically. As regards rings, the feature is enabled in rlconfig.pm, while you enable it for sites on the "Edit ring" page in "Ring admin". The feature requires that the forms generated by newring.pl respective newsite.pl are used rather than separate forms.

Another step to counter-check spam submissions is that attempts to submit links in the ring or site description field are instantly rejected.

More accurate HTTP status codes
-------------------------------
Ringlink is now redirecting permanently (301) instead of temporarily (302). This makes it more likely that the search engines register actual site URLs rather than URLs to the Ringlink system.

This URL:
http://www.gunnar.cc/cgi-bin/ringlink/list.pl?ringid=NoSuchRing
generates now a "not found" (404) status code, which should prevent that it gets listed with the search engines.

Various minor fixes, such as:
-------------------
- Certain false checker failures prevented.

- An attempt has been made to prevent spiders etc. from affecting
  the ring stats.

- A bug, that under certain conditions made it possible to submit
duplicate ring IDs or site IDs, has been fixed.

Enjoy!

/ Gunnar
