I just recieved an email today from Webring.com, telling me that I

Webring.
Interesting; that makes three of us that I am aware of.
I was surprised to hear that they registered it as their own
trademark and now after all of the past years of the word being used
by everyone on the internet, no one else can use it.
I was surpised too. IMO, the word "webring" - as opposed to WebRing or
WebRing.com - has become a generic term, and should never have been
approved as a trademark or service mark.
I'm confused, how do they think they own the word ? My ring used to
be on webring years ago, and I moved it to my own domain and the
ringlink program in 2000.
Your continued thoughts are appricated.
When I received the note from WebRing.com, I replied and told them that
I need some time to think it over. I'm in the middle of my "thinking",
and in the meantime I do not make any changes. My advice to other
Ringlink users would be to not be too hasty.
Please feel free to write me off list.
