How about giving the option? I like CAPTCHA personally, 'cause it really cuts down spam.

This cookie thing, which I have tested on my contact form program, has proved to work 100% so far, so it would be difficult to cut it down more. ;-)

Sure, in theory CAPTCHA is safer. Theoretically a spammer might wright a script which first sends a request to pick up the cookie, and then in a second step includes that cookie in the submit request. But to do that, he would both need to figure out that there is a cookie, and spend time writing a script only for Ringlink. Considering that spamming a Ringlink system is totally pointless, he won't bother.

If, later on, I'm proved to be wrong, I'm ready to resign myself and replace the cookie solution with CAPTCHA.
