Re: Passing ring code

Hi,

Why ask the Ringmaster to do all this?

Why not have the default ring homepage be a part of the program, that is replacing the Login pages for both the ringadmin and siteadmin pages.

The Siteadmin login page would then display all that Ring's Site IDs in 2 categories 'Active' and 'Inactive' with the message:
'Click on your Site ID to get the Code for the Navpanel that is to be displayed on YOUR website'.
Beside each Site ID with a message from the Ringmaster would be a red *.  The page would also provide guidance, with the suggestion that they Login to edit their Info, or if a red * beside their Site ID, click it to read and respond to all message/s.

The Ringadmin page would then display all that System's Rings with a number beside each for the number of sites pending for each ring and a red * for any messages from members, or the site admin. The page would also provide guidance, with the suggestion that they Login to edit their Info or Activate any sites pending, or if a red * beside their Ring's name, click it to read and respond to all message/s.

This would be great for Ringlink Systems not using mail, or who are hosted with web hosts who have sendmail/SMTP disabled or all screwed up (ALL my problems with the Ringlink problem have had to do with the code e-mail messages and/or sendmail/smtp). This way I could just visit the ringadmin page daily without logging in, and at a glance see if one of my rings hosted with that system has any sites pending, or if there were any messages for me.

As you know I'm playing around with all these possibilities at a proposed new ring system.....

As to the Navpanel and it's mail screwing up HTML code, I agree only a Ringmaster with a wish for mind bending screwups, and who loves twisted gobbledygook from his or her frustrated members would ever dream of sending them the code by e-mail!! :-) This is especially true for Ringmasters like me who offer their members not one Navpanel, but 3 options for the navpanel (I've had countless new members who instead of displaying just one option, display all 3 on their website, because the Ringlink program displays the code for all 3 in the same text area. :-(
My suggested alternative being:
http://lor.sourceforge.net/templates/navpanel.html

As I see it the more options in navpanels you give your members, the more likely they will join your ring.
Haven't we all got messages like this:
"Great webring, but the navpanel just does not work with my website......"
"My url address to the image?? If I do that, the image does not display.......... Do you provide a navpanel without the image map thingy stuff?"
(Navpanel Images having always been a big problem with some web hosts, just see http://www.netrings2000.com/FAQfragments.htm)

I wonder, how many persons have given up on Ringlink, because of sendmail/smtp problems?

Dreaming of a mail free webring system,

Pete
Consequently they should provide a link to "Site admin" on the
ring homepage, accompanied with possible additional guidance where to
find the site ID, and encourage their members to log in when needed. I
want the Ringlink design to keep encouraging good ring management
practice. :)
