There is no generally right answer to the question when an upgrade is motivated; It's up to respective system owner to evaluate and decide.

There have been quite a few releases since 2.1 (see http://sf.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=49392). Personally I think that the possibility for the ringmasters to save ring backups is an important feature.

When deciding whether to upgrade, you should take into consideration that it's easily done if you haven't modified the program files.
