I had no idea. Where did you read it, Jeff?

Gunnar,

There are messages all through the news forum on PostNuke.com that
allude to something that happened, but I haven't found the straw that
broke the camel's back. It must have been on the developer email lists
or something. Also see this page written by John Cox, the former
PostNuke project leader - http://www.dinerminor.com/

Well, even if we have spent quite some effort to customize PostNuke
for the coming new Ringlink site (http://www.ringlink.org/index.php),
such bad news does not really worry me.

- PostNuke is a good CMS already.

- You are permitted to modify it as you like.

- There is a large user community, and PostNuke is free software,
which should ensure a continuous development of the program in one way
or the other.

The issue comes down to plug-ins. Since the fork just happened, the
modules should still work in both. But in the future, there is the
possibility that the Module API's will change slightly and they will
diverge. In that case, it is possible that modules will stop working in
either one or the other and module developers will have to choose which
one to support. The problem is choosing which one will become the more
dominant player which will get the most support from module developers.

This seems to be the 3rd fork of the original phpNuke ; first PostNuke,
then Envolution and now this yet unnamed "Project X". There is something
to be said for dictatorships and monopolies sometimes....
