In the forums section:

Links 2.0 Discussions there is this:

~~~~~~~~~~~
Links 2.0 can generally handle 5000 records, or roughly 1MB, with the
default configuration. Some people have managed to have to have larger
databases, but Links becomes more and more unstable the larger it gets
if your server cannot handle it (running nph-building, for example).
But one solution could be, and he provides a nice example of Links 2.0 in
action is:
Well, there might be one fix. I don't know what extra work it would
entail on the Ringlink modification end.
Have multiple copies of iLinks or Links (whichever we end up using), and
separate the databases by topic. That would give us a bit of growing
room.
I've got multiple copies of Links running here:
I know that they're different, but the end user might not instantly
realise that. We could group the categories so that similar categories
were on the same database.
