Hello Ringlinkers,
First, in view of all the excited anticipation of the worlds first multilingual
webring system, I wish to reiterate Gunner's caution. I think that it's wise
to recognise that under Gunnar's firm leadership, Ringlink has proven solid and
stable, nothing should be allowed to compromise this.
I'm rather excited by an example of multilingual translation that I have just
discovered in another open source sourceforge PHP project called WebCalendar:
http://webcalendar.sourceforge.net/
WebCalendar has already been translated into seventeen languages. Initial
impressions suggest that the translation of Ringlink may not be all that
difficult. My interest was captured by this statement in the documentation:
"The idea is very much stolen from the GNU translate C library"--I have not yet
tracked down any further info on this library. Before commencing with the
translation of Ringlink, those of you who will be undertaking the work will
want to find and review the GNU translate C library, and the approach taken by
those involved in the WebCalendar project. You will also want to search out
and examine other approaches, Ringlink deserves the best.
