2.) hosts most often don't specify exactly how much CPU and resource use you
get with virtual hosting accounts, so it is a gray
area. Almost always these issues are addressed on a case by case basis when
an account "disturbs the normal operation of the
server"....

I "have" my own dedicated server and I do resell space on my little
machine which I have upgraded once so fare (I have it now since May
2000...). Above situation is definitely true in my case and so fare my
own site (MOM.cc) receives the most traffic from all the sites residing
on my server and therefore also uses up the most resources I assume. I
had a big problem in the beginning of my hostings time with the cgi
script WebAdvert taking up to much resources (I had hundreds of members
in my banner exchange producing more than 70'000 hits a day on one cgi
file and so I had to extremly size down the banner exchange since I
couldn't afford an instant upgrade of my machine. Right now I am hosting
two web ring systems (one belongs to a member of this list and the other
one is my own) and so far I didn't notice any probs. But as stated above
- only time will really tell (me).

And yes - so true as well: you usually allways get what you pay (or not
pay) for... ;)

Warm greetings from March Mom Marlyse and Kiddo Renée
