Subject: [ringlinklist] ringlink under NT
File access can be controlled by group permissions, directory permissions
and individual file permissions.
Can be as strict or not as you wish.
Although NT permissions are not "chmod" permissions, they can and do equal
the same.
The item you would have a problem with is "password". You would normally
password a "share"(hard drive) and
then use permissions for the rest within the "share".
Your Ringlink would be using a portion of a "share" that other Host users
would be trying to use. That would not be acceptable for the Host.

Is anyone on this list using Ringlink on an NT server?
I've been talking to the person who runs my server and he seems to be
telling me that it'd be pretty much impossible to set up Ringlink in a
secure manner. Now it could just be that we're talking past each other,
but
it sure sounds like he's saying that the tricks I've seen described for
Unix/Apache to hide the databases with the passwords from prying eyes
cannot be emulated on NT.
So I'd like hear from people actually using ringlink on NT about how
they've set up their system, what permissions are granted to various
directories and files, and so on.
Also, what do you use in place of sendmail?
Thanks,
Graham Collins
