Gunnar,
We anticipate that the traffic will be very heavy.
The Freaky Girlz Webring at Yahoo/Webring has almost 250 sites. Together with
the other 7 webrings we run, we have over 1,000 member sites and the traffic is
quite heavy. One reason for this is, freakygirlz.com and freakyplanet.com have
high search engine rankings and navigation through the rings is heavy. We have
3 other webrings that are part of FP but are independently owned. We;ve been
contacted by atleast 10 other Ringmastrs who want to start rings with us and we
feel sure that once we release the new system that many more than that will
sign up.
We are currently using 500 ms of space for all the other programs at FP, and I
am sure that "Freaky Planet Webringz" as we are calling it, will add quite a
bit more. Now I am not sure about bandwidth usage, I would have to check on
that.
Thank you for letting me know the info about the search engine, it helps alot.
I sincerely hope that we can use RingLink without affecting the server speed.
The staff at Fp are very excited about it.
Our site is at http://www.freakyplanet.com/Webringz/ It is not finished but it
should be soon.
Thanks :)
Ike

I am just installing RingLink. I do wish it had a search engine
program with it.
Search features are put up on the project list at
http://www.gunnar.cc/ringlink/#project
Until they have been implemented, there is a search script adopted for
Ringlink available at http://rachelle.net/ringlink/fixes/
I have heard so much about Ring Link not being able to handle a
large number of rings
Have you? There have been a few discussions on this subject on both this
list and ringmgr@xxxxxxxxxxx, and most of the reported conclusions are
that it works, after all.
The number of rings or sites isn't very important, btw, but the
_traffic_ is. Do you have any idea of how much traffic you are talking
about?
